MARGAO: Residents and local councillors in Margao are urging the municipality to take action against vendors operating without trade liceces. Concerns over illegal business activities are mounting, with citizens calling for stricter enforcement of regulations to ensure compliance.
Speaking to reporters, MMC councillor Mahesh Amonkar pointed out that numerous businesses, including those in his ward, are operating without the required legal documentation.
“We’ve seen the municipality take action against roadside garbage dumping and black spots. Similarly, we call on them to initiate a drive to address businesses operating without trade licences,” Amonkar said. He noted that he has personally witnessed many vendors operating at night, causing disturbances for residents.
“I have brought this matter to the attention of the Chief Officer and requested swift action,” he added.
Local resident Rajat Naik echoed these concerns, accusing the civic body of ignoring businesses without licences due to political pressure. “Loyal taxpayers are being targeted, while those without licences continue to operate freely,” Naik asserted, demanding that shops operating without trade licenses be sealed.
Officials from the Margao Municipality have responded, stating that they have already begun addressing the issue and are urging businesses to apply for the necessary trade licences immediately.
