Margao Congress Block Convener Savio Coutinho has strongly condemned local MLA Digamber Kamat for his recent statements against former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, accusing him of pandering to the BJP for political survival.
“It is truly a pity that Mr. Kamat has to make a fool of himself just to appease his BJP bosses,” Coutinho said. He further alleged that Kamat’s comments were motivated by the need to secure protection in connection with the ₹35,000 crore mining scam.
Coutinho defended Indira Gandhi’s legacy and said the Congress would not remain silent against attempts to malign her contributions to the nation.
The remarks have escalated tensions between Congress leaders and Kamat, who switched allegiance to the BJP after decades with the Congress party.
