MARGAO: Consumer rights organisation GOACAN launched its
Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) in Margao, aiming to address town-wide neglect by government agencies.
This initiative encourages the public to “Spot the Negligence,” “Identify the Official” responsible, and “Pursue the Remedy” for issues affecting the community.
As part of their campaign, GOACAN has documented several areas in need of urgent attention. One such area is the Old Collectorate Building in Margao, where poorly maintained steps, overrun by shrubbery and garbage, highlight what GOACAN describes as neglect by responsible government supervisory officials.
GOACAN plans to escalate these concerns, with formal appeals to the South Goa District Collector, Chief Electrical Engineer, Additional Director of Transport (South), and the Municipal Engineer of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) to prompt corrective action.
The campaign has also brought to light an abandoned hearse van, purchased under the MPLAD scheme, which has been left unused in the car park area. Additionally, GOACAN has identified exposed electrical utilities like transformers and junction boxes in the town, posing a risk to passers-by.
