Margao Police have intensified their drive against underage riding and the use of modified silencers, following mounting complaints from residents about road safety risks and noise pollution.
Police Inspector Suraj Samant confirmed that several two-wheelers have already been seized for being driven by minors without valid licences, as well as for using illegally modified exhausts that generate excessive noise. Despite repeated warnings, he noted, such offences continue unchecked.
Samant also cautioned parents against allowing their underage children to ride motorcycles, stressing that in case of accidents, guardians often attempt to shift responsibility despite being at fault.
As per current law, riding with a modified silencer attracts a fine of ₹10,000, with courts empowered to impose additional penalties. Police have assured that strict enforcement will continue to ensure road safety and restore peace in residential areas.
