Margao Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against an unidentified individual accused of defrauding a local resident of ₹1.77 lakh in a sophisticated online job scam.
According to police sources, the victim was allegedly lured with promises of high returns through a part-time job scheme promoted online. The fraudster, using fake identities, convinced the complainant to transfer money as part of a task-based job offer that claimed to offer payments in return for completing simple assignments.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter and are working to trace the cyber trail left by the accused. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to cheating and impersonation.
The police have once again urged citizens to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of online job offers before making any financial transactions.
