Margao’s School Hour Mayhem: Fatima Convent Road Chokes Under Pressure
Published on

Growing traffic chaos near Fatima Convent High School in Margao, South Goa, is causing serious concern among commuters and residents. During school hours—especially at student drop-off and pick-up times—vehicles are routinely parked on both sides of the road, choking the narrow stretch and leading to heavy congestion.

Located in a central part of Margao, close to major landmarks such as the police station and the old bus stand, the school caters to nearly 1,500 students. The lack of traffic discipline and designated parking arrangements has turned the area into a daily bottleneck, with long traffic snarls and frequent standstills.

Residents report that the situation isn’t just inconvenient—it’s dangerous. Students and pedestrians are forced to weave between double-parked vehicles and moving traffic, putting their safety at risk. The congestion also hinders the movement of emergency vehicles and disrupts public transport routes.

Despite repeated complaints, there has been little intervention from authorities. Locals are now calling for immediate and practical solutions: deployment of traffic personnel during peak school hours, creation of designated parking bays, and strict enforcement of no-parking zones in front of the school.

As one of South Goa’s busiest urban centres, Margao needs urgent attention to urban planning and traffic regulation. The situation outside Fatima Convent High School highlights the pressing need for better coordination between civic bodies, the education department, and traffic enforcement agencies to ensure student safety and ease daily commuting woes.
