PANJIM: Maulinge-Kudchire gram sabha on Sunday unanimously resolved to oppose the proposed Construction and Debris waste Processing Plant.

The members said that it was ploy of the government to grab the land of the villagers and charged the project was not in the interest of the village as it would disturb the environment and the manner in which the project is being pushed is unfortunate.

Prasad Umarye, a resident, said that everyone should be united and oppose the project and be prepared to file a petition in the court if required.

Sarpanch Priyavanda Gawkar, "We don't want any kind of project in this village by opposing the villagers as they have been working at this place for many years."

The gram sabha unanimoulsy resolved to oppose any kind of waste processing plant.

On Thursday, August 29, tensions had flared amongst the villagers who opposed the proposed Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste processing plant.

Hundreds of villagers marched at the site where the land survey was undertaken to stop the proposal even as local MLA Premendra Shet categorically told them that the preliminary survey work will not be stopped.

He tried to pacify the crowd by informing them that the plant was for processing of C&D waste processing plant, but people were not ready to accept any explanation. The villagers said that they were opposed to setting up of a proposed plant.

The agitated villagers clashed with police, who were deployed there in large numbers. The police also detained some villagers and later released them at the police station.
