Goa Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has responded to recent criticism over the rollout of taxi meters and the aggregator app, firmly clarifying that several key decisions were taken before he assumed charge of the department.

The minister’s comments came in the wake of allegations by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, who accused the Transport Department of mismanaging the reforms. Choosing not to escalate the matter, Godinho said, “I will not use the language used by others, I will maintain discipline.”

Emphasising the need for modernisation, Godinho reiterated that digital taxi meters and app-based booking systems are essential for improving transparency and service quality in the sector. “We have to adopt technology,” he stated, adding that the initiative has the full support of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Goa Cabinet.

Godinho underscored that the reforms aim to enhance safety, ensure fair pricing, and improve convenience for both locals and tourists. While acknowledging resistance from certain quarters, he maintained that the changes are critical for Goa’s evolution as a global tourism hub.

“The aggregator app and digital meters are not about control—they are about improving service, curbing overcharging, and meeting international standards in public transport,” he said.

The Transport Minister also appealed to political leaders to avoid turning the issue into a political controversy, urging them instead to focus on the broader interests of the state. “Let’s have constructive dialogue and move forward together,” he concluded.
