A notice barring media personnel from entering the Bicholim Primary Health Centre (PHC) has stirred controversy, with journalists denouncing the move as an infringement on press freedom in public spaces.
The restriction, displayed prominently at the PHC entrance, comes shortly after a recent incident involving the media at Goa Medical College (GMC). While officials have not offered a detailed explanation, the timing has raised concerns about increasing limitations on media access to healthcare institutions.
Journalists and media associations have condemned the decision, arguing that public health facilities must remain transparent and accessible to the press, especially during times when public interest and accountability are crucial.
"This is an unacceptable step in a democracy. Public health institutions should not operate behind closed doors," said a senior journalist.
Calls for revoking the ban are growing, with media groups likely to take up the issue with state authorities in the coming days.
