
Tension gripped the Duler area of Mapusa on Monday after a man, suspected to be mentally unstable, was spotted wandering the streets armed with a sharp weapon.
Upon receiving alerts from concerned citizens, the Robert police van rushed to the scene. As officers approached the individual, he attempted to flee, prompting a brief chase through the area.
During the apprehension, the situation escalated when the man suddenly turned violent and attacked Head Constable Ashirwad Naik with a spanner, causing a minor injury to his stomach. Despite the attack, the police managed to subdue and detain the suspect.
The injured officer received prompt medical attention, and the man was taken into custody for further evaluation and questioning. Authorities are working to determine the individual's mental health status and whether he poses an ongoing threat to public safety.
