Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan Urges Govt for Immediate Action on River Diversion

A delegation from Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar on Monday, urging urgent government intervention to halt Karnataka's diversion of the Mhadei river. The group requested that the Goa government arrange a meeting with the Union Environment Minister to highlight the critical nature of the issue. They also emphasized the need for expediting the Supreme Court hearing on the matter and proposed appointing Delhi-based legal counsels to ensure availability whenever the case is heard. Additionally, the delegation sought an aerial survey of the diversion sites to assess the scale and environmental impact clearly. Volunteers from the group also expressed willingness to visit the Kalasa-Bhandura projects in Karnataka but asked for police protection due to previous challenges faced by those inspecting the area.
