When asked about Calangute MLA Michael Lobo’s recent remarks on Goa’s growing drug problem, BJP Goa State President Damu Naik appeared to dismiss the comments as a publicity stunt. Without naming Lobo directly, Naik suggested that certain individuals were more interested in grabbing headlines than addressing issues constructively.
Lobo had earlier voiced alarm over the rising presence of narcotics in the state, pointing to the risk it posed to young people and the various channels through which drugs were being trafficked into Goa.
Responding to the controversy, Naik underscored the importance of discipline and unity within the BJP. He stated that all party MLAs involved in public disagreements had been cautioned, especially newer members, who he said must familiarize themselves with the BJP’s values and internal code of conduct. Emphasizing that the BJP functions as a “family,” he urged members to resolve disputes internally rather than airing grievances through the media or on social platforms.
Naik’s position reflects his consistent message since assuming leadership of the state unit—calling for loyalty, restraint, and adherence to the party's ethos. While maintaining a conciliatory tone, he has made it clear that repeated breaches of party discipline will not be tolerated, and that newcomers must align themselves with the BJP’s organizational culture, leaving behind any past loyalties or ideologies.
