Goa’s Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho on Monday called upon all industries operating in the state to prioritise the training and employment of local Goans, while outlining the government’s vision for a more sustainable, export-oriented, and inclusive industrial policy.
Speaking at an industry stakeholders’ meet, Godinho stressed that Goa’s unique ecological balance limits the scale of industrial expansion seen in larger states, and hence the focus must shift to environmentally sustainable businesses and high-value, low-footprint industries.
“We cannot have large industries on par with other states due to our environmental constraints. What we need is clean, green and smart industries that can coexist with Goa’s ecosystem,” the minister stated.
He also highlighted the government’s increasing emphasis on export-led growth, encouraging local entrepreneurs to tap into global markets. Godinho further urged women to step forward as entrepreneurs, assuring government support for gender-inclusive business development schemes.
“We want more women entrepreneurs to lead the way. Goa must create a balanced ecosystem that benefits all sections of society,” he added.
In his appeal to industrial players, Godinho said that investing in skill development and hiring Goan youth must be a top priority. The government, he said, is ready to collaborate with industries on training initiatives that can create meaningful local employment.
The minister’s remarks come amid renewed efforts by the state to update its Industrial Policy and attract investment without compromising on Goa’s environmental and cultural fabric.
