Goa’s Tourism Minister, Rohan Khaunte, has called for thoughtful and constructive conversations about the state’s tourism sector, emphasizing the need to preserve Goa’s “positive vibe” while attracting visitors year-round. Speaking to the media, Khaunte unveiled “Monsoon Tourism” as a new initiative designed to highlight Goa’s unique allure during the rainy season. “Goa is more than just its beaches. With Monsoon Tourism, we aim to showcase the state’s lush natural beauty and vibrant cultural heritage that flourish during the monsoons,” he said.
The minister also announced that Goa has secured ₹400 crore in funding for tourism development through the Centre’s Capital Investment Scheme. These projects aim to diversify the tourism experience by encouraging visitors to explore Goa’s hinterlands and lesser-known destinations. One key project is the upcoming town square in Porvorim, which will cover 11,000 square meters across three Housing Board plots, with a total investment of ₹120.97 crore. The square is planned to be a lively center for community events, cultural programs, and artistic performances.
Khaunte expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy, and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for their continued support. He remains optimistic that these initiatives will boost Goa’s tourism appeal and create fresh opportunities for both locals and visitors.
