Levelling serious charges against police constable Gauresh Naik from Valpoi-Sattari by referring to him as a “collection agent”, Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira on Tuesday questioned how a constable could afford a bungalow worth crores of rupees, land, and a luxury car — all allegedly registered in his wife’s name.
“We have a black sheep in the force, a police constable by name Gauresh Naik from Valpoi and now posted at Valpoi police station. He seems to wield considerable influence or clout in the police,” he said,
The MLA said, “Many believe Naik to be collection agent and I do not know for whom he is collecting, whether for himself or he is passing down the line.”
He said, “I have his voice recording where he is threatening some complainants. This man, being a police constable, happens to be the son of a retired Electricity Department driver. He bought a plot of land in his father’s name in Nanus-Sattari at Rs 7.26 lakh. Source of the money will have to be checked. He has constructed a bungalow worth crores of rupees. Where is the constable getting money from and how the department is keeping quiet?”
Ferreira recalled that when the constable was transferred from the Valpoi Police Station, the station staff celebrated it by bursting crackers.
He said it was reported in the media that some media persons were forced to take down the videos of the celebration.
“Unless there is some quid pro quo, unless somebody down the ladder is getting something from this man, I do not think the government or the DGP (Director General of Police) will remain quiet on this,” he alleged.
