MLA Sankalp Amonkar has raised serious concerns in the Goa Legislative Assembly regarding widespread job losses following the privatisation of Berths 10 and 11 at the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA).
Speaking in the House, Amonkar alleged that Delta Infralogistics, the private company now operating the berths, has sidelined local stevedores and service agencies. Instead, the firm has deployed its own workforce, resulting in mass unemployment among Goan workers who were previously engaged at the port.
“The livelihood of hundreds of local families has been directly impacted,” Amonkar said, urging the state government to intervene and ensure that local stakeholders are not excluded from port operations. The issue has reignited debate over the implications of privatisation on local employment in key public infrastructure sectors.
