MLA Sankalp Amonkar has raised serious concerns over large-scale illegal activities in paddy fields and saltpans at Survey Nos. 158/0 and 159/0 in Sankwadi, Arpora, alleging that water bodies are being backfilled for commercial use without any legal approvals.
Amonkar revealed that despite a demolition notice issued in April 2024, no action has been taken by the authorities, allowing the illegal work to continue unabated.
“These are ecologically sensitive areas being destroyed for commercial interests. It’s a blatant violation of CRZ and environmental regulations,” Amonkar said, demanding immediate intervention from the authorities.
He urged the government to act swiftly to stop the ongoing destruction and take strict action against the violators. Locals have also expressed concern over the environmental damage being caused and the inaction of relevant departments in curbing these illegal developments.
