Expressing deep concern over the growing threat of sand erosion along Goa’s coastline, MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Monday called for urgent government intervention to safeguard the state’s environment, livelihoods, and tourism industry.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Goa Legislative Assembly, Amonkar warned that unchecked erosion is damaging vital coastal habitats, reducing natural shoreline buffers, and endangering infrastructure. “The most affected are fishing communities and sea turtle nesting sites, both of which are integral to Goa’s coastal ecology and economy,” he noted.
Amonkar urged the government to immediately formulate and implement an integrated coastal management strategy across the state. He emphasized the need for swift, science-based action to curb long-term ecological degradation and protect Goa’s coastal economy from further losses.
"The situation is alarming and cannot be ignored any longer," Amonkar said, pressing for concrete and coordinated measures to address the accelerating erosion crisis.
