PANJIM: MLAs Michael Lobo, Kedar Naik and Delilah Lobo on Thursday met Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar, IPS, and urged him to direct Traffic Police to stop harassing tourists.

The MLAs claimed that the tourists are frustrated by repeated checks and interrogations at every corner of coastal area in the North Goa. They urged the DGP to find a solution for the tourists, who have already been checked, are not repeatedly stopped.

Speaking to reporters, Saligao MLA Kedar Naik said, “The tourists are being harassed in every corner by the Traffic Police. They are being checked repeatedly. This message is being spread across the country. This issue need to be resolved.”

Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said, “Goa is the only State where tourists are being harassed. We have urged the Police Department to develop a mechanism that a tourist whose documents have been checked is not harassed. He or she should be stopped if there is visible violation. Every tourist is being stopped even if he is wearing a helmet.”

However, the MLAs said that they were assured by the DGP that a system will be developed which will help in ensuring that the tourists do not face inconvenience because of Traffic Police.
