MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council generated a revenue of Rs 32 lakh from the recently held feast fair in the commercial city, amidst the backdrop of a Rs 17 lakh scam reported last year.

Speaking at a press conference in Margao on Monday, Damodar Shirodkar, Chairperson of the council, stated that the civic body is committed to recovering all the funds from the accused, Yogesh Shetkar, who is also a municipal staff member.

“If proper attention is given, positive outcomes can follow. Recently, we held a meeting with the Chief Officer and other concerned officials regarding the feast fair to ensure that the directions issued by the High Court regarding its conduct are fully followed,” said Shirodkar.

He further informed that after meticulous planning, over Rs 32 lakh was generated from the Feast Fair, and the entire amount has been deposited in the government treasury. An order was issued to ensure that the fair's proceeds were deposited on the same day they were collected.

“There has been no misappropriation of a single rupee from the current feast fair,” he affirmed.

Shirodkar also assured that the civic body would recover all the money from the alleged accused, Yogesh Shetkar, in connection with last year's scam.

“I am confident that no one other than Shetkar is involved in the scam. I had questioned the accused when it was discovered that he had not deposited the money into the bank. It was the civic body's responsibility to notify the concerned bank when it was discovered that funds were in Shetkar's account, but this was not done,” he explained.

Additionally, Shirodkar expressed confidence that the hydraulic parking facility would address many of Margao’s parking challenges.
