The Mopa Airport Police have registered two separate cases involving the illegal conversion of private vehicles into rent-a-cabs without proper authorisation or documentation. Both vehicles have been seized as part of ongoing investigations.
In the first case, a resident of Dhargal is accused of altering the registration details of a car originally registered as a tourist taxi with the Pernem RTO. The vehicle was reportedly converted into a rent-a-cab without valid paperwork and rented out for profit. A formal complaint was filed by PSI Viraj Sawant on Thursday, leading to the attachment of the vehicle.
In the second incident, a Calangute resident was booked for modifying the registration plate of her privately registered vehicle and allegedly operating it as a rent-a-cab service without authorisation. The offence came to light on Friday afternoon, and the vehicle was subsequently seized by the police.
Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against those misusing vehicle registration categories for commercial purposes without complying with transport regulations. Investigations in both cases are currently underway.
