More than 21,000 women in Goa miss Griha Aadhaar linking deadline, financial aid suspended

More than 21,000 women beneficiaries of Goa’s Griha Aadhaar scheme have missed the April 30, 2025 deadline to link their bank accounts with Aadhaar, leading to the suspension of their ₹1,500 monthly financial assistance. The scheme, managed by the Department of Women & Child Development, aims to support married women, widows, and divorcees from middle, lower-middle, and economically weaker sections, helping them cope with the rising cost of living. The suspension follows the Central government’s mandate for Aadhaar-based direct benefit transfers, with no extension granted for this deadline.

To qualify for the scheme, applicants must be female residents of Goa for at least 15 years, aged above 18, and have a combined annual income of no more than ₹3,00,000. Women or their husbands employed in government or certain public sector roles are not eligible. Beneficiaries must submit various documents, including Aadhaar card, income certificate, proof of residence, and bank account details annually to continue receiving the assistance. Those who missed the deadline will need to complete the Aadhaar linking process before their payments are reinstated.
