In a bid to ease the growing parking challenges and improve traffic discipline in Vasco, the Mormugão Municipal Council (MMC) has rolled out a pay parking system across key locations in the city. The designated areas include lanes near Ashok Cine, the MMC building, and the post office, where the initiative aims to streamline parking while also generating revenue for the council.

Under the new system, four-wheelers, including rent-a-bike and rent-a-car services, will be charged Rs. 20 for the first hour of parking, with an additional Rs. 15 for each subsequent hour.

MMC Chairperson Girish Borkar emphasized that the council worked closely with the Vasco traffic cell to determine the fee structure and ensure the initiative's success. Furthermore, the MMC plans to issue a tender soon to appoint a contractor for the management of the pay parking system.

This new parking system is expected to bring more order to the city’s traffic situation, benefiting both residents and visitors. A local from Vasco stated, 'It was common to see vehicles parked for months, causing inconvenience to others. With the introduction of pay parking, we hope people will park more responsibly'.
