In preparation for the upcoming Damodar Saptah festival, one of Goa’s most cherished cultural and religious events, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) recently convened a special joint meeting to streamline planning and coordination.
MMC Chairperson Girish Borker underscored the council’s commitment to ensuring the festival is conducted smoothly and safely, particularly in light of recent incidents reported in Goa and elsewhere. He highlighted the critical need for robust crowd management strategies and inter-agency collaboration.
To that end, the MMC is working closely with the police, fire services, and medical teams to bolster emergency preparedness and avoid risks such as stampedes or crowd-related mishaps. Maintaining public order and ensuring a quick response in case of emergencies will be a top priority throughout the festivities.
Alongside safety, the council is also aiming to increase its revenue from festival-related activities. Efforts are underway to optimize stall allocation, improve amenities, and attract a wider range of vendors and visitors. By enhancing the overall festival infrastructure, the MMC hopes to make Damodar Saptah both a spiritual and economic success.
These proactive measures reflect the MMC’s balanced approach—preserving the sanctity of tradition while ensuring safety, efficiency, and financial sustainability. The council aims to offer a memorable and secure experience for both devotees and tourists during this iconic Goan celebration.
