Porvorim Police have arrested a man from Mumbai for allegedly duping a local resident of ₹9.50 lakh in an elaborate online job scam promising easy income for completing Google reviews.
The accused, identified as Jagdish Bokoliya, reportedly lured the victim by offering ₹40 per Google review and instructed them to use the Telegram app to receive “tasks.” Police said the fraudsters gradually gained the victim’s trust and convinced them to make multiple payments via GPay and ATM transfers, claiming the money was needed to unlock higher rewards and process withdrawals.
According to investigators, the scam used a common tactic involving “bounty tasks” with fake commissions and withdrawal fees to extract funds from unsuspecting users.
After analyzing phone records and bank account transactions, police tracked Bokoliya’s location and took him into custody.
The investigation, led by PI Rahul Parab and supervised by senior officers, is ongoing to identify additional suspects and recover siphoned funds.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution when offered online work opportunities that require upfront payments or deposits.
