PANJIM: North Goa Zilla Panchayat (ZP) adhyaksh Shankar Chodankar on Thursday disclosed plans to construct a spacious administrative building at Colvale, where government land is being identified.
Speaking to mediapersons at the BJP office, here, Chodankar said that the North Goa ZP office submitted a proposal to the government for construction of a bhavan. “We followed up the matter and achieved success when we identified land of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs situated at Karaswsada, Mapusa. Of the total land, we have asked for 10,000 square metres of land and the State government has given its approval. Once the land is transferred from Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs to the North Goa ZP, we will lay the foundation stone for the proposed bhavan by next year.”
According to Chodankar, during the shifting of the North Goa ZP office from the Junta House to the new premises in the Gomantak Maratha Samaj hall on October 15, CM Pramod Sawant disclosed his plans to construct bhavan for both the district ZPs.
After 25 years, the North Goa ZP office which was situated on the fifth floor of Junta Houses has now been shifted on the second floor of Gomantak Maratha Samaj hall, as a temporary measure, Chodankar said.
