PANJIM: The effigies of demon Narakasur went up in flames, but the metal remains of the effigies were left unattended on roads causing major hindrance to vehicular traffic in the capital city on Thursday.

A Number of huge effigies of Narakasur were burnt on busy road junctions early Thursday morning. But the metal metals or structures were left abandoned on the road mostly in St Inez areas. These posed risk to two-wheelers riders and motorists who faced difficulties due to abandoning of metal structures on the middle of the roads.

Some citizens informed the Panjim fire station, who rushed to the site but could not remove them. They then told the locals to contact the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP). The roads were also filled with garbage besides causing air pollution due to burning of huge effigies.

Many complained that it gave a sore sight in the capital city as these metal remains were lying on the road till noon. The locals opined that the authorities concerned should ensure that the organisers of these Narakasur effigies shift the metal remains away from the road.
