NCST member urges better tribal job reservations

VASCO: National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) member Jathotu Hussain wrapped up a three-day visit to Goa, engaging with officials and stakeholders to address tribal concerns. Hussain spoke about the need for better implementation of job reservations and rosters for tribal communities, identifying these as primary challenges. He noted the importance of prioritising villages with at least a 50% tribal population for scheduling.

During his visit, Hussain met with the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) SC/ST Employees Association and was presented with their memorandum of concerns. He also discussed issues with senior State officials, Goa SC/ST Commission Chair Deepak Karmalkar, and other community leaders. Further meetings focused on financial support, tribal education, and welfare initiatives.
