PANJIM: Members of the Comunidade of Nerul on Sunday demanded that permission for the DLF project be revoked, and notices be served to the proponents of the ropeway project and the Industries Promotion Board (IPB) project.
During the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Comunidade, the members unanimously called for the permission for the project to be revoked. They pointed out that the decision to grant permission was taken in haste, and the members were not consulted. They further argued that a lease cannot be granted in perpetuity without consulting all the constituents of the Comunidade.
The members also highlighted irregularities in granting permission for the ropeway project. They expressed dissatisfaction with the amount of money the Comunidade would receive by leasing the property to the project proponent for an extended period. During the meeting, it was revealed that the size of the land allocated for the project is significantly larger than what was initially announced.
The Comunidade members stated that the managing committee cannot make major decisions without the approval of the Comunidade members. Justifications that the committee attempted to raise resources did not satisfy the members. They demanded that the managing committee issue a letter terminating the project and serve a show-cause notice to the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC).
In the case of a project proposed by the IPB, the members noted that land owned by the Comunidade was being leased by a tenant who lacked the authority to do so.
The Comunidade also discussed the issue of granting permission for a temple on its land.
