OLD GOA: A labour of love spanning two years, Man of Miracles – St Francis Xavier, an inspirational book authored by Patrick J. Lobo, was released on the eve of the XVIII Exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier. The book was launched by Fr Henry Falcao, Convenor of the Exposition Committee, at the St John of Goa Church, Old Goa, on Wednesday.
Patrick J Lobo’s extensively researched work traces the life and miracles of St Francis Xavier. The book begins with the miraculous conversion of St Ignatius of Loyola, which inspired St Francis Xavier, and chronicles his mission to India, his arrival in Goa, his miracles, the recovery of the crucifix, his travels to Malacca and Japan, the miraculous preservation of his body, his canonization, and miracles recorded after his death.
Speaking at the launch, Fr Henry Falcao remarked, “St Francis Xavier’s miracles are in the hundreds, though only a few are documented. This is why the book is aptly titled Man of Miracles. His life, simple, humble and lived in obedience to God, shows us that miracles are possible even today.”
He added, “St Francis Xavier was a messenger of the Good News, and now it is our turn to carry forward that message. I congratulate Patrick and everyone who helped him bring out this exceptional work and pray that your labour of love bears abundant fruit in the Lord’s vineyard.”
Lobo shared his journey of writing the book: “Two years ago, I started documenting miracles and events. In this age of science, believing in miracles has become quite difficult, but through faith, everything is possible. This book is a testament to that.” He thanked Fr Henry Falcao for penning the foreword and expressed gratitude to his collaborators.
‘Man of Miracles – St Francis Xavier’ is available at all book stalls in Old Goa during the Exposition.
