New Pernem municipal building locked in limbo, locals fume

The Pernem Mission for Local, a well-known citizens' group, has voiced strong concern over the unexplained delay in inaugurating the newly constructed municipality building in Pernem. Although the building is reportedly complete and ready for use, it remains closed, leaving residents and civic activists frustrated by the lack of access to basic civic services.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the group pointed out that despite the readiness of the new facility, there has been no official move to inaugurate or shift operations from the current, outdated municipal office. “It is unfortunate that such a vital public space is being kept idle while citizens continue to struggle with old, cramped facilities,” said a spokesperson.

The group also drew attention to the adjacent municipal garden, which has been fully developed but similarly remains off-limits to the public. Envisioned as a recreational space for the community, particularly children and the elderly, its ongoing closure has added to local disappointment.

The Pernem Mission for Local has called on authorities to immediately inaugurate and open both the new municipal building and the garden. They emphasized that timely access to these completed public amenities is essential for improving civic life and fostering a sense of community in Pernem. The group warned that continued inaction could trigger public protests and heighten dissatisfaction among residents.
