In a much-needed development for local healthcare, the Sub-District Hospital in Ponda has finally received the appointment of a new surgeon after a gap of three years. The move comes after sustained demands from local residents who had long expressed concerns over the lack of surgical services in the area.
The absence of a dedicated surgeon had caused significant distress among patients, many of whom had to travel to hospitals in Panaji or Margao for even minor surgical procedures. With the new appointment, residents hope for improved access to timely and quality medical care.
Local health authorities confirmed that the newly appointed surgeon has already taken charge and is expected to begin consultations and procedures shortly. The appointment is part of the Health Department’s broader effort to address staffing gaps in key medical facilities across Goa.
“We thank the government for finally responding to our repeated requests. This is a huge relief for people in and around Ponda,” said a local community leader.
The development is expected to ease the burden on other regional hospitals and enhance the healthcare infrastructure in central Goa.
