The recently repaired road leading to Karaswadda from Cunchelim has developed potholes again. Earlier the road was in terrible shape and was repaired after the issue was highlighted in the Citizen Herald.
Much public funds have been wasted to repair the road that has developed potholes and two-wheeler riders often keep falling here and injuring themselves. This only speaks of volumes on the quality of construction material used by the contractor to repair the road. Was the contractor only concerned of using substandard material to fill his pockets at the cost of the public safety? As of now the contractor has placed some stones into the potholes- the cure perhaps is worse then the disease with bikers getting knocked off after bumping into the stones. One wonders if the stones are stop gap method for repairing the road or austerity measures adopted by the government to save on costs.
The Chief Minister had stated recently that those contractors responsible for bad quality roads will be hauled up and penalised. Time will tell if the government begins with this contractor. Lest we call road contractors the sons-in-law of the government!
