The controversy over alleged bogus voters in Seraulim has taken a de cisive turn, with authorities confirming that there were no discrepancies in the vot er list as previously alleged. The clarification comes after a few weeks of speculation and political chatter, with local groups questioning the legitima cy of several entries on the electoral roll. According to a report submitted to the Chief Elec tion Commissioner’s office, a detailed physical verifica tion was carried out by the Deputy Collector, Mamlat dar, and Block Level Officer.
Their findings dismissed allegations that the list in cluded non-residents or ineligible names. Additional Collector-II, Ramesh Gaonkar, told OHeraldo that the inquiry found that the voters in question had been living in Seraulim for many years. “After being physically verified, it has been ob served that the voters resid ing in the concerned loca tion are genuine residents.
The residential property in question has subdivisions and further subdivisions, which accounts for the higher-than-usual number of registered voters,” Gaon kar explained. Officials revealed that the house under scrutiny is a multi-storey structure with an upper floor and eight rooms, from which nearly 38 individuals have registered as voters, besides 16. Authorities clarified that these regis trations are legitimate un der election law, given the household’s divisions.
This development fol lows earlier complaints lodged by political groups and concerned citizens, who had alleged that the presence of such a large number of voters in a single location pointed to foul play.
