Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday dismissed speculation that taxi aggregators Ola and Uber would soon begin operations in Goa. He clarified that the recently announced taxi aggregator guidelines were not intended to allow these companies into the state.
“There is no question of Ola and Uber entering Goa as of now,” Sawant said. “People should not be confused by the guidelines. They are meant to regulate the existing taxi system, not to permit new companies.”
The clarification comes amid growing concern from local taxi operators, who fear that app-based services could impact their earnings and disrupt the current system.
Sawant assured that the government would take all stakeholders—taxi operators, hotel owners, and MLAs—into confidence before making any major changes. “Our goal is to find balanced solutions that protect local interests,” he said.
The government’s stance appears aimed at easing tensions within Goa’s transport sector, which plays a key role in the state’s tourism economy.
In conclusion, while the state continues efforts to modernize its transport policies, there are no immediate plans to introduce Ola or Uber. The focus remains on improving the current system through consultation and regulation.
