In a recent crackdown on traffic violations, Margao Police seized five motorcycles operating without number plates and fitted with illegally modified silencers, as part of a targeted enforcement drive aimed at curbing noise pollution and unlawful vehicle alterations.
The operation, led by Police Inspector Suraj Samant, focused on motorcycles deliberately stripped of registration plates—making identification difficult—and fitted with silencers altered to produce excessive noise, far beyond permissible legal limits.
“These types of modifications not only flout traffic regulations but also create serious disturbances for residents,” said PI Samant. “We are committed to ensuring quieter, safer streets and will continue such drives to hold violators accountable.”
The seized vehicles were impounded, and fines have been issued to their owners. Authorities stressed that such modifications pose both a public nuisance and a safety hazard, while also enabling anonymity during unlawful activity due to the absence of registration plates.
Residents have welcomed the action, citing increasing disturbances from loud motorcycles. The police have also urged the public to report illegally modified or suspicious vehicles, reinforcing the department’s message of shared responsibility in maintaining law and order.
Margao Police affirmed their plans to conduct regular enforcement drives going forward, underlining a zero-tolerance stance on traffic law violations and environmental disturbances caused by rogue motorists.
