BICHOLIM: The no-confidence notice against Bicholim chairperson Kundan Falari is likely to fizzle out as all signatories have buried their differences and have come together.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, BJP State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade and local MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye brought truce between all the BJP-backed councillors. Following this, it was decided to abstain during the special meeting of the council convened to discuss the no-trust motion on Tuesday, December 17.

In all, nine councillors including seven-backed had tabled a no-confidence notice against the Chairperson. In the notice, they had charged that the Chairperson was supporting illegal construction with the jurisdiction of the municipal areas, misusing his powers as chairperson and does not take them into confidence while taking major decisions.

But all 14 councillors attended the meeting convened by the BJP leaders. After the meeting, Sawant said that no councillor will attend the special meeting called on Tuesday and that all councillors will be taken into confidence to decide the next plan of action.

Falari said that he will abide by the party decision while, councillor Aniket Chanekar said that they had moved the no-confidence notice because they were unhappy. He admitted that it also caused distress in the BJP. He also said that the party’s decision will be binding on him.
