PANJIM: The North Goa District Road Safety Committee on Friday decided to prepare an analysis of accidents taking place in the State and make it available to the public.

Speaking to reporters, Roland Martins, who is a member of the committee said, “The meeting discussed most of the pending issues and one of them was to make data related to accidents available to the people. Blind spots need to be rectified and the concerned panchayats and municipalities need to act and spend their money to carry out necessary corrections so that lives are saved.”

He said the meeting took serious note of the recent accidents in North Goa that claimed seven lives in 72 hours.

“The analysis of the accident-prone areas will be prepared and highlighted among the public during the next road safety week which will begin on October 14 and end on October 20,” said Martins.

He further said the road safety week will have complete involvement of people, including staff of various departments, to create awareness about road safety and safe driving.

“It has been decided to activate panchayat level road safety committees and to create greater awareness among tourists as part of World Tourism Day,” said Martins.

Efforts are being made to involve the Excise and Tourism departments to create awareness among the tourists visiting Goa to ride responsibly in the State.

“Stress will be laid on making bus transport safer and for that,a WhatsApp number will be written in all the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC) buses to lodge a complaint if there is something wrong,” said Martins and added that through the Education Department, awareness will be created among students and their parents who would be requested not to allow their underage children to drive.

He said the next meeting of the committee will be held after October. Additional Collector MahadevAraundekar also attended the meeting.
