North & South Goa Taxi Union Reject Aggregator Guidelines, Demand Scrapping
Published on

The North & South Goa Taxi Union has expressed strong opposition to the proposed Goa Taxi Aggregator Guidelines 2025, urging the government to reconsider or scrap the draft rules. Union leaders are encouraging taxi operators across the state to submit their formal objections by June 18th, which coincides with Goa Revolution Day, a day symbolizing resistance and unity in the state.

The unions have raised concerns that the introduction of app-based aggregators such as Uber and Ola could impact the livelihoods of traditional taxi drivers. They argue that local operators may face challenges competing with large multinational platforms, potentially resulting in reduced income for many drivers. Union representatives have also highlighted the possibility that drivers from outside Goa could enter the market, leading to increased competition and changes to the local taxi industry.

The proposed guidelines aim to modernize the sector by establishing licensing norms, fare regulations, and operational rules for aggregators. While the government intends these measures to bring regulation and order to the taxi industry, the unions remain cautious, suggesting that the rules may favor larger companies over local operators. The upcoming deadline for submitting objections is expected to draw significant participation from taxi operators, reflecting the ongoing debate over the future of Goa’s taxi sector.
