PONDA: The Swachh Bharat campaign aims to promote cleanliness, but despite several public appeals, the garbage dumped on the ground floor of a government building in Tisk-Ponda, poses health risks to the public.

The locals have urged the authorities to maintain cleanliness at the building, housing government offices and frequented by the public on a regular basis.

The locals complained that the waste comprising food, plastic bags, cups and thermocol, besides roof tiles are dumped at the spot which may cause a health hazard in the area.

The residents said that the rain-soaked waste has caused the area to stink. Besides this they complained that this waste has attracted stray cattle and stray dogs, who roam freely at entrance and passage. The area defaced with cow dung poses a risk to visitors.

Naresh Naik, a resident of Ponda, said, “The government should set an example of Swachh Bharat by keeping its own building clean. Besides, garbage is also dumped in the parking area.”

It is pertinent to note that the Swachh Bharat campaign is observed from September 17 to October 2.
