PANJIM: Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, on Wednesday announced that the National Medical Commission has granted approval to increase the MBBS seats to 200.
In a statement, GMC said, “We have received the Letter of Permission from the National Medical Commission, approving an increase in our MBBS seats to 200. This expansion marks a significant step towards enhancing the capacity of our institution and allowing more students to pursue their aspirations of becoming skilled medical professionals.”
GMC, the largest government hospital in the State, earlier had approval for 150 seats for its MBBS course.
The GMC also announced that it has received approval of seats in several postgraduate MD/MS courses.
According to the statement, the seats for MD Radiodiagnosis have been increased from six to seven, seats for MS General Surgery have been increased from 6 to 15, seats for MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology have been increased from six to eight, seats for MD Pharmacology have been increased from four to six, while seats for MD Pediatrics have been increased from seven to 10 seats.
“The increase in seat capacity reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering medical excellence and addressing the growing healthcare needs in the region and beyond. Goa Medical College remains dedicated to nurturing the next generation of medical professionals while providing cutting-edge medical education,” GMC’s statement read.
Reacting to the development, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the expansion will allow the college to train more aspiring medical professionals.
“Delighted to share that @GoaGmc has received approval from the National Medical Commission to increase MBBS and postgraduate MD/MS seats across several specialties, including Radiodiagnosis, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pharmacology, and Pediatrics.
