PANJIM: The ongoing work including hill cutting at Dhargalim, Pernem, for the proposed ‘Deltin Town’ project will be subject to the outcome of the petition and that no equity will be claimed by the project proponent, the High Court of Bombay at Goa, stated on Thursday.
Hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) writ petition filed by activist Swapnesh Sherlekar and Rohidas Harmalkar, the Court has asked the authorities particularly the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department to ensure that the work is carried out strictly in accordance with the permissions granted.
Representing the petitioners, Adv Rohit Bras De Sa brought to the notice of the Court that massive hill cutting was in progress at the site. However the respondent - the Delta Corp Limited submitted that the hill cutting permission was granted to them on June 13, 2023 and that they were carrying out the work in accordance with the permission granted.
The petitioners are praying to stay any development activity in the area designated as an Investment Promotion Area for ‘Deltin Town Project’ under the IPB of Single Window Clearance Act, 2021.
According to the petitioners, the proposed construction of an integrated resort complex project named ‘Deltin Town’ was approved in the land admeasuring over 3.20 lakh square metres, which was notified as Command Area of Tillari Irrigation Project in Dhargalim. The IPB issued technical clearance to the project proponent in May last year.
They are also praying to withdraw the notification dated June 10, 2022 granting IPA status to the Deltin project.
The PIL writ petition has been posted for final disposal at the admission stage on November 28.
