PANJIM: Stating that it is unfortunate to learn that the BJP’s double engine government failed to invite Pope Francis for the upcoming decennial Exposition scheduled from November 21 onwards, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao on Wednesday slammed the government for yet again failing to respect the people’s sentiments.
Yuri said that he had appealed to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in 2013 to put in all possible efforts to ensure Goa is included in the itinerary of the Pope. The last Papal visit to Goa of Pope John Paul-II in February 1986, is cherished by the people. It was a nostalgic memory, and this would have been as well, he said.
He said, “The BJP government had sought Rs 300 crore grants from the Government of India for the decennial Exposition of St Francis Xavier. We need to know whether it is granted or rejected.”
Alleging that the BJP’s both engines failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Goa, Yuri has demanded that the high powered committee meeting over Exposition be convened immediately to discuss this issue.
