PANJIM: The Opposition opened two flanks to attack the state government on Saturday, with AAP State president Amit Palekar challenging the BJP to probe three land deals in Assagao and Goa Congress vice-president Sunil Kawthankar threatening to expose land grabbing incidents reported in Goa in the new year.
Reacting to repeated statements by BJP spokesman Giriraj Pai Vernekar that the Opposition lacked proof of any land grabbing cases settled by politicians, Adv Palekar said, “Let us start with property under Survey Nos. 78/2, 80/1 and 80/3 of Assagao village. Then let us move on to a few in Anjuna, Assagao, Parra and other areas of Bardez taluka. Pic is of some observations in Jadhav Commission’s 622 pages report which this government is holding tight.”
“We have given the lead based on the One-Man Commission report and the BJP spokesman should ask his government to initiate inquiry into it. We shall not allow the job scam and land grab scam which are sought to be diverted by the State BJP,” Adv Palekar said.
On the other hand, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) vice president Sunil Kawthankar has warned to expose land grabbings reported in the State from next year.
“Whatever land grabbings and whatever lies the Chief Minister is telling, I will expose it in the New Year,” he said.
It may be recalled that the one-man Commission headed by Bombay High Court retired Justice V K Jadhav had submitted its report on the land grabbing cases in the State to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in November last year.
After receiving the report, the Chief Minister had stated that nobody will be allowed to sell these lands and that an inquiry will be initiated against the seven scamsters, arrested by the Special Investigation Team (land grabbings). He had further stated that owners/individuals will be given a time-frame to reclaim their properties.
A COLLECTIVE EFFORT TO
PROTECT SERULA
Serula Comunidade’s gauncars have decided to contest the January 12th election against the incumbent panel, accusing it of two decades of land fraud and financial irregularities.
The gauncars have alleged that the current leadership, allegedly dominated by two families, exploited a recent code amendment to retain power, neglecting community interests and transparency. Pg 2 >>
