The assault on tribal rights activist Rama Kankonkar sparked a heated debate in the Goa Legislative Assembly, with Opposition MLAs raising serious concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Opposition members strongly condemned the attack and urged the Speaker to issue an official condemnation, highlighting Kankonkar’s role as a prominent Scheduled Tribe (ST) leader and activist. They emphasized that such incidents reflect a disturbing trend of rising violence and impunity under the current administration.
“This is not just an attack on an individual, but an attack on the voice of Goa’s tribal communities,” an Opposition MLA said, calling for immediate action against the perpetrators.
The House was urged to treat the matter with urgency and ensure the protection of activists and citizens working for social justice.
