On April 22, an attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killed 26 people, most of whom were tourists. Following this attack, tensions between India and Pakistan escalated, and the central government issued a notification canceling visas of Pakistani nationals.
A Pakistani national who has been living in Goa on a long-term visa since 2016 has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the central government’s notification canceling visas of Pakistani nationals following the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
The April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in 26 deaths, mostly tourists. After this incident, relations between India and Pakistan worsened, leading the central government to revoke the visas of Pakistani citizens by issuing a notification.
After the government issued the notification canceling visas, Pakistani nationals were given a fixed deadline for deportation. The petitioner’s lawyer presented the case before a bench of Justices Sanjay Karol and Satish Chandra Sharma on Thursday. The lawyer argued that the petitioner’s long-term visa contains a special condition. The petitioner also stated that he was born in India.
The court asked why the petitioner had not filed a petition in the High Court. In response, the petitioner said that police had approached him. The Supreme Court said the matter will be listed for hearing.
