PANJIM: The float parade in the capital city will kick-start carnival celebrations in the State on March 1, at 5 pm.

Float parades will be held in Margao on March 2, followed by Vasco on March 3, Mapusa and Morjim on March 4.

Cleeven Fernandes from Benaulim has been chosen as King Momo this year.

Despite the digging and other ongoing works, the Carnival float parade in Panjim will follow last year’s route from the new Patto Bridge to Campal.

In his message to Goans, King Momo has called for unity among the people.

It is pertinent to note that keeping in mind the ongoing works of the Porvorim flyover, the carnival parade in Porvorim, scheduled on February 28 stands and the Shigmo parade on March 29 stand cancelled.

The Corporation of the City of Panaji has been coordinating with authorities to manage traffic.

Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) Managing Director Kuldeep Arolkar said, “The Traffic Police are working out a traffic plan which will be in force during the Carnival celebrations in Panjim. M G Road, which has been dug up, is expected to be ready by February 26.”
