MARGAO: Residents of Cutbona, Carxetta, and Karay in Velim are sounding the alarm over a severe water shortage affecting their daily lives.
For several days, locals have struggled with a critically low water supply, making it difficult to carry out basic tasks such as cooking and flushing toilets. The water problem peaked following the government's decision to begin supplying water to the Cutbona fishing jetty.
Sarpanch Veena Cardozo led the residents in submitting a formal petition to local MLA Cruz Silva, urging immediate intervention. Cardozo pointed out that the water pressure in the village had dropped significantly since the jetty began receiving its water supply, with the flow to homes here diminishing to a mere trickle over the last five days.
In response to the crisis, MLA Cruz Silva quickly intervened, instructing the Junior Engineer Public Works Department (PWD) to connect the affected villages to the Chinchinim water supply line in an effort to restore water pressure. Silva set a two-day deadline for the completion of the work and also directed the department to deploy water tankers to provide temporary relief to residents.
