PERNEM: The Mopa Pidit Jana Sanghatna (MPJS) on Thursday stated that local youth were sidelined for jobs at every subsidiary company, engaged by the GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL), to work at the Manohar International Airport at Mopa, Pernem.

The association alleged that the companies purposely rejected the application of the local youth, who are eligible candidates for jobs as drivers and infact recruited persons from Maharashtra and other States.

Bhaskar Narulkar said that the airport operator and outsourcing agency had not considered youth from Pernem for various posts. “They recruited persons from other States when manpower was available in Pernem taluka,” he said.

Reacting to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement that 95 per cent youth from Pernem taluka got jobs at the Mopa airport, Narulkar demanded that the government should either make public or give them the list of those recruited at the Mopa airport. “If that is the case then how persons from Bicholim and Sankhali areas are brought in buses to the Mopa airport everyday? Have these persons shifted their residence in Pernem taluka?, he asked.

They have urged the State government to take strict action in this matter, failing which they will hold a "Dharna Andolan" outside the premises of the Casarvane village panchayat after a week.
