Pernem taximen gather at Police Station, demand justice for assault victim

PANJIM: Taxi operators from Pernem on Friday barged into the Pernem Police Station on Friday and demanded justice for the 26-year-old girl who was assaulting allegedly by a youth from Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters, they said," We have come here to find out what are the sections applied to the case. These migrants come to Goa and comfortably stay without getting their tenant verification done and. We demand that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant take note of the incident and see to it that there is no recurrence of such incidents in future."

However, the Pernem Police said they have arrested the accused identified as Dhanesh Kashyap (25) currently residing at Kondalwada, Naibag, Pernem.

According to the police, Suryakant Shetye from Shetyewada, Torsem, Pernem, lodged a complaint stating that on Wednesday, October 94, the accused assaulted his daughter Sanjana Shetye with blunt object on her forehead causing grievous injuries.

The Pernem Police registered an offence under section 118(2) of BNS 2023 and arrested the accused on Wednesday night.

The case is being investigated by PSI Tukaram Chodankar of Pernem Police Station.
